London & New York – Embargoed until 17.00 BST on 9 September 2010 - a new study into IT help desk efficiency and user attitudes towards self-service software provisioning in the United States and the United Kingdom revealed that more than half (52 percent) of employees wait up to a week or more for the software they need – 40 percent have to chase their initial request and 15 percent reportedly never get it.
The research polled 1,000 US and UK based professionals from medium to large organisations (500-3,000 employees) from a broad range of departments including senior and middle management, sales, marketing and operations. Conducted in August 2010 by Vanson Bourne, the study was commissioned by1E, a software and services company that improves IT efficiency by identifying and reducing costs and waste in hardware, software, energy and time.
The key findings from the study are:
The larger the organization, the more likely it is that the user never receives the requested software. Nearly one in five respondents (18 percent) from organizations with more than 3,000 employees (58 percent of the sample) stated that they never receive the software requested.
Shopping™ from 1E delivers the applications that employees need within minutes of approval of the initial request, without helpdesk intervention, installing 'silently' in the background, without impacting productivity. For licensed software, a check is made to ensure sufficient licenses exist. Software can also be rented on a temporary basis, enabling licenses to be reclaimed and re-used later, thereby empowering organizations to reduce their software spend
